Unifying Enterprise Analytics for Real-Time, Scalable Insights for a Financial Services Institution with Microsoft Fabric

The customer is a leading financial services institution delivering housing finance solutions, operating in a highly data-driven and regulated environment. With growing data volumes and increasing demand for real-time insights, the organization required a modern, scalable analytics platform to support business agility and decision-making.

Indian enterprises operating in regulated, data-intensive sectors face mounting pressure to deliver faster insights without compromising governance. Legacy analytics platforms that served adequately a few years ago now create fragmentation, delay, and operational risk. Microsoft Fabric offers a unified, cloud-native response to these challenges and Embee Software has demonstrated how this platform can transform enterprise analytics at scale.

Challenges Faced by the Customer

The organization encountered multiple challenges in its analytics landscape:

  • Fragmented analytics ecosystem: Disparate pipelines, datasets, and reporting layers across platforms
  • Scalability constraints: Increasing data volumes (100+ GB/day) impacting performance and refresh cycles
  • Limited real-time insights: Delays in data processing affecting business decision-making
  • Governance complexity: Lack of unified control, access policies, and monitoring
  • Operational inefficiencies: Manual pipeline management and dependency on multiple tools
  • Data accessibility challenges: Difficulty in providing consistent, business-ready data across teams

Solution Offered by Embee Software: Microsoft Fabric with Medallion Architecture

Embee Software designed a phased migration from Azure Synapse to Microsoft Fabric, anchored by a Medallion data architecture framework. The engagement addressed platform unification, governance, automation, and reporting in two structured phases.

Phase 1 — Platform Migration involved comprehensive dependency mapping, architecture redesign, and the migration of 291 data pipelines, 561 datasets, and 35 Power BI dashboards into Fabric workspaces. Validation, monitoring, and performance optimisation were embedded throughout.

Phase 2 — Medallion Framework established a three-layer data architecture to enforce quality and traceability:

  • Bronze Layer: Raw data ingested directly into the Lakehouse without transformation
  • Silver Layer: Data cleansed, enriched, and transformed via Dataflows and Spark Notebooks
  • Gold Layer: Business-ready datasets served through the Warehouse and analytical models

This framework enabled end-to-end data lineage, consistent quality standards, and faster.

3. Scalable Data Engineering & Automation

  • Enabled ingestion of ~120 GB of data daily with high-frequency refresh cycles
  • Leveraged Fabric Pipelines and Dataflows Gen2 for low-code automation
  • Reduced manual intervention and improved pipeline efficiency

4. Governance, Security & Monitoring

  • Role-based access control and policy-driven governance
  • Centralized monitoring using Fabric-native tools
  • Improved compliance, visibility, and operational control
