Sundarbans Children Learn River Conservation and Climate Awareness with Embee Software

NEW DELHI (India CSR): In the villages of the Sundarbans, children are gaining valuable knowledge about their river ecosystem and climate change, thanks to an educational project supported by Embee Software. The initiative aims to inspire young learners to protect their local environment, especially the river Kalindi, which faces significant challenges due to climate change.

The Sundarbans, renowned for its vast mangrove forests, are particularly vulnerable to the effects of rising sea levels and extreme weather events like cyclones. To address these concerns, Embee Software has established Open Learning Centers (OLCs) in five villages across the region, providing children with hands-on, experiential learning about their environment.

“At Embee Software, we believe that education is a key tool for environmental change. Through this initiative, we aim to inspire young minds in the Sundarbans to become advocates for their environment and future. We are proud to be part of their journey in understanding and protecting their natural world,” said Sudhir Kothari, Managing Director, Embee Software.

The project, which began in June 2024, involves children sharing their thoughts and feelings about the river and its ecosystem. They visit the riverbanks to observe local wildlife, collect materials for educational charts, and gain insight into the biodiversity of the area. This includes learning about the various fish species that inhabit the river and understanding the essential role rivers play in local communities.

In addition to their classroom activities, the children are actively involved in planting mangrove saplings. Mangroves are crucial for protecting the land from floods and storms, acting as natural barriers against climate-related impacts. By participating in this restoration effort, the children are directly contributing to safeguarding their community’s future.

“This project has been a unique learning experience for the children. They are actively involved not just in understanding the river, but also in finding solutions for its protection. The knowledge they are gaining will help them, their families, and the wider community tackle the challenges posed by climate change,” said Utsav Kothari, Business Head – Data, Application & ERP Solutions, Embee Software.
