HR Automation: Why Is It Important and Why You Must Care About It Now

Intelligent automation technologies are well on their way to transform life as we know it. From smart cars to smart air conditioners to smart home assistants – automation have become a much more integral part of our day to day activities than we realize. Thus, it’s no surprise that intelligent automation is playing a key role at our workplaces too.

Automating repetitive manual tasks and business processes enables resources to focus on value-adding tasks that directly or indirectly help the business to grow. And experts recommend that a business willing to transform digitally, should begin with automating the Human Resources department. To know the possibilities that HR automation can provide your business with, take a look at this video:

Why now is the right time to automate your basic HR tasks?

Recently a study by Service Now surveyed 1,850+ corporate leaders—Clevel, VPs, directors and managers—across seven countries to evaluate the workload of organizational leaders as well as the impact and use of automation in common business services and executives’ opinions on the future of work.

The study, “Today’s State of Work: At the Breaking Point” revealed that companies are fast approaching a breaking point and require intelligent automation to leverage the pace of technological advancement. 54% respondents said they have started using intelligent automation in one or more business processes while 87% will invest in intelligent automation moving forward. It also brought to light some very important stats that affect the HR department directly:

  • Overall only 42% of business processes are automated, and business leaders suffer, spending two full days or 16 hours a week on manual administrative tasks.
  • Human Resources (HR) is the worst at business process efficiency. HR was named the department “most in need of a reboot.”
  • Specifically, only 37% of HR delivery of employee services are automated and 33% of resolving customer issues are, compared to IT services at 53% automated.
  • 91% of executives say their skilled employees spend too much time on admin tasks.
  • 93% believe that reducing mundane tasks unleashes employee creativity.
  • 82% find it difficult to hire people with skills needed to grow their business.

What can HR automation mean for you? Or Benefits of HR Automation

  • Saved time and increased efficiency: An HR executive typically spends a major portion of his work hours looking through time-log spreadsheets, payroll calculation, files and emails. This drastically cuts down their productivity. Automating these processes can improve the HR team’s productivity rate.
  • Improved the candidate experience: Fluid communication, though one of the most basic requirements, is an area with which most HR executives struggle. Automating some part of it through an applicant tracking software can reduce applicants’ frustration as they can log in and check their own application status. Moreover, if applicants call HR with queries, all the relevant information is available in one place for the HR team.
  • Reduced errors: Automating records management can reduce risks of human errors and data loss in the event of a disaster, natural or man-made.
  • Cost and resource-optimization: HR automation can save a significant amount of time as mentioned above for each resource, which, in turn, can lead to substantial monetary saving.
  • Improved the employee experience: As an organization grows, there will be an increasing number of employees needing HR assistance, each with different requirements. Automated HR systems can empower employees to manage a part of basic activities by themselves. This can lead to improved employee satisfaction.

All these findings collectively emphasize the fact that modern workplace has created unprecedented demands on both employers and employees, necessitating the use of systems that can render processes more optimizable, easily manageable and accurately scalable. Intensified competition, globalization, accelerating technological change and strict regulatory requirements have transformed the nature of work in recent years, resulting in an overwhelming need or agility and speed in HR processes. Inability to achieve just that can potentially compromise both the work culture and reputation of an organization.HR automation, if done right, can help drive bottom line growth. Moreover, it helps the role of HR professionals to evolve, providing them with ample time to work on high-value activities such as high-touch employee services, career development and organizational design rather than spending time dealing with routine tasks.
